JOB DESCRIPTION
Please note that whilst this role has been advertised as Apprenticeship Technical Manager (CIOB), the contractual role title will be Technical Manager.
Employment status and working hours
Permanent, part time for 7 hours per week.
In this part time role, your weekly working pattern will be flexible. Team meetings take place on a Thursday, and you must be available to attend these as and when they are scheduled.
Organisation structure
Education and Students, Apprenticeship Outcomes team.
Your line manager will be Jane Harlow, Apprenticeship Outcomes Manager.
Place of work flexibility
You will normally spend your total working time at home*, which must be within the UK. You may, on occasions, be expected to attend the Horizons, Reading office to attend meetings or training events. *Working from home is only possible if your environment is suitable – please see the ‘Working from home’ section on our Careers Site for further information.
High level summary of job role
As the Apprenticeship Technical Manager (CIOB), you will utilise your industry expertise and understanding of the apprenticeship standards and assessment plans to advise and support the apprenticeship delivery team, admissions, apprentices, and employers. You will be responsible for ensuring apprentices effectively record the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours from their work experience.
You will support the development and delivery of targeted on programme support including completing desktop evidence reviews for apprentices to support their preparation for the End Point Assessments (EPA). You will be involved in employer vetting and training to ensure the University admits the right students on the right programmes, to ensure timely completion of the apprenticeship.
Specific job role accountabilities and responsibilities
Review apprentice portfolio completion and evidence submission, complete desktop reviews of portfolio progress and provide regular updates to the apprentice, employer representative, and Apprenticeship Outcomes Officer (AOO).
Provide technical and specialist support for University teams and external stakeholders in relation to EPA.
Support the development of the portfolio of evidence and achievement of apprenticeship standards.
Provide information, advice and guidance for the apprentice’s workplace mentor and/or employer as requested by the AOO via progress reviews.
Provide 1 to 1 support (on AOO request) for apprentices deemed at risk to ensure timely completion of the apprenticeship.
Report any deviance from End Point Assessment plans to the relevant AOO/AOM to instigate remedial actions.
Conduct the final gateway desktop review and feedback ahead of the final EPA submission.
Work in partnership with other Technical Managers to improve the service and apprentice experience.
Provide 1 to 1 support for unsuccessful apprentices as requested by the EPA manager.

Qualifications and training
GCSE Maths and English language Grade C or 4 or above (E, A).
Degree level qualification (E, A).
Professional Membership of CIOB and/or CABE (E, A).
Further education level qualifications (D, A).
Previous experience
Extensive built environment industry experience (E, A, I).
Experience within the education sector/higher education (D, A, I).

You must be prepared to undertake mandatory online training should you be appointed. The University is regulated by the Office for Students and Ofsted, and we have specific requirements and expectations around safeguarding, Prevent, and anti-harassment and bullying. PAY AND BENEFITS
Salary: Salary up to £9,888 per annum (£49,440 Full Time Equivalent).
Holiday: 26 days paid holiday (rising to 28 with service) plus paid bank/public holidays plus up to five paid closure days (typically between Christmas and New Year); all per holiday year Full Time Equivalent. Our holiday year runs from 1 August to 31 July. We also have a holiday buy and sell scheme in place. Sometimes the University does not need to close for five days per year and any balance (for example one day), can be used as a paid Wellbeing Day to take time out for your own physical or mental health.
Pension and life assurance: Pensions auto-enrolment to the People’s Pension which is a default salary sacrifice scheme. You may opt out of salary sacrifice but remain in the scheme, or you may choose to opt out altogether. We provide life assurance (death in service) cover as standard to all employees.
